Where as different people have differnt ways the accepted safe way now is both ponies to the pole attach coupling reins ( then you have control)attact pole straps to both then outside trace inside traces, depending on the amount of help that you have depends on whether you trace up one pony then the other, but always outside trace first then back to re adjust pole straps if you use them Take ou is the reverse, you are looking for control at all time as much as is possible

Hi, I drive my shetlands as a pair under the guidance of a friend who has alot of experience driving/showing Morgans (singles) but we seem to be disagreeing over the order in which to attach ponies to vehicle... Worse seems to be the contention over taking them out!
I am being assessed to drive my pair at the local driving club soon, and I would like to know the 'proper' way to to put to and take out. This is the order I have been told - not sure if its is correct, or the rationale...
Pole strap, pole strap, reins across and attached to bits, outside then inside trace on both sides. Buckle reins together. This makes sense as ponies pulled in with outside trace. But I was also told to attach pole strap and outside/inside traces on each pony, then reins once both attached. HELP!
To take out: reverse order, depending on your chosen method!, except reins detached from opposing ponies last, AFTER the pole straps... (not sure quite why.) Any comments PLEASE? I use quick release shackles on pole and swingles.
