Jane, I also hope the juniors have a great experience and lots of fun in Austria. Good luck to them all! Re the missing winners from Keysoe. You probably know that a Welsh team was formed from scratch last year for the Escrick Junior Championships, the instigator was Rowena Moyse. She financed, trained, lent ponies and carriages and supplied transport to Escrick. Assistance was requested from others but they considered the juniors not good enough and thought they would embarrass themselves. How wrong they were! All of us at Escrick were impressed by the appearance, manners, behaviour and driving skills of the Welsh Juniors. They were a credit to themselves, Rowena and the Country. Two class wins at their first attempt was a great result. Following this success it was decided to try and get the Welsh team to Austria for the forthcoming event (England, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland had all been invited to send teams). The juniors started writing letters and getting sponsorship and Rowena signed up for the Chef d'Equip session at the Unicorn. At the Unicorn Rowena told by a member of Council and told that she could not take a Welsh team and that only a British team would be going. This knocked the juniors and Rowena very hard. Rowena decided, at considerable expense, to take the two girls you mentioned to Keysoe where they entered the largest class of the competition. One girl won the class and the other, after driving for only a few months, an excellent ninth. At this stage others, belatedly, realised the potential of the juniors and invited them, for a fee, to train at elsewhere. Somewhere along the way Sara Howe, a lady of the highest integrity was drawn in as Chef d'Equip for the Welsh Team. She obviously had no knowledge of the what had gone on before and I am told telephoned Rowena to ask why she was not in charge of the team. Just where and when and who gave "permission" for a Welsh team to go to Austria remains unknown. Even now people in South Wales are under the impression that the Welsh team, which always was Rowena's team, is being led by Rowena. The result of the refusal given at the Unicorn left some deeply upset and rather annoyed people. Senior Council members should ensure that this sort of thing does not happen again Mary Lewis |

Great to hear the Juniors are going to Austria. I hope they all have a wonderful time and do well. Can anyone tell me why the two Welsh Girls who did so well at Keysoe and the Junior National Championships are not included on the list? |
