I wanted to rise to the Invitation contained on the HEADNOTE..."CHAMPIONSHIP BLOG"...but this part of the Forum is the more appropriate. I had resolved to offer up some commentary at the end of each day having served on DRESSAGE ARENA 2 throughout FRIDAY MORNING....and for 9 hours on OBSTACLE 8 throughout SATURDAY....and then finally some near 6 hours on the COLLECTING RING for the CONES on SUNDAY. Add to these splendidly spent hours in the upen air to tme spent on the journey home and I am sorry to say.all enthususiasm to write on some at least of THE EVENTS of the DAY is lost to tiredness.
A STEWARDS privileged view of events is for another day. There were 122 Enntries..118 Forward. I marvel at the figures calculated by TOM and CYNTHIA....I have a prejudiced interest you inderstand....Dressage...3 JUDGES x 25 Movements scored to be totalled... those TOTALS to be DEDUCTED from 250 X A DIVISION to produce an AVERAGE and this X 118 Competitors. And another THOUSAND CALCULATIONS plus throughout SATURDAY as the PAPERWORK on the Sections and OBSTACLES is returned. The concentrated CLOCK WATCHING throughout EVERY MINUTE of over 6 HOURS for Section STARTERS (Katie STEWART at "A")...these too are the CHAMPIONS of THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
I complement too ANDREW COWDREY for his sustained informed commentary throughout SATURDAY....and the fine shared COMENTARY with FELICTY on SUNDAY. Others must comment on THE "A" TEAMS that serve this sport and this CHAMPIONSHIP. We are pleased to be amongst you.

We are very lucky to have a volunteer scorer at EACDG events who posts our club results at the end of each day, but I accept he's pretty special!

Hi Paul.

The issue is simply one of cost. The International events have a lot more funding at their disposal, as do driving events on the continent in general.

To hire the services of a company that provides live scoring and results probably costs as much as the entire budget of our National Championships.

In this country, as far as driving trials are concerned, most of the work of running the event is done by unpaid volunteers. This includes the timekeeping, score collection and scoring. Each event would have to find the resources for taking the scores, converting them into a suitable format and uploading them to a web page at regular intervals during the three days of the competition. Technically, this is not terribly difficult to do, but requires the services of a dedicated volunteer, a laptop and an internet connection at every event.

Sadly, most events do not have the resources to be able to do this, so we rely on the scorers to email the results to us once they have returned home from the event, which may often be late at night, so we may not get them till the next morning.

If people would really like to have live results and would be prepared to pay for them, possibly by increased entry fees, I'm sure this could be done, but unfortunately with events struggling to get entries and break even these days, it may not be easy.

Any ideas people may have on how this could be done, please let us know.

Vic

Can anyone explain how the mainland europe trials can get their results on their websites "as they happen" yet this country cannot.
I understand that Vic Kusin has not received any results from Windsor so cannot update the website.
The Windsor event has it's own website with a button for "results" but there is nothing there.
Come on Championship organisers let the world know what is happening please!

Paul
