Martyn - When entries closing date for Normanhurst arrived I had very few entries and the event was really at risk, but now we have a viable entry. Many thanks to everyone that rallied round to save this long established event, we appreciate your support, so Martyn, do not despair too much just yet, it is still early.

For some unaccountable reason the majority of competitors seem to be under the impression that an event can be organised in a week or less and it does not matter when entries need to be sent in by.

The fact that courses have to be arranged with landowners and then built that takes many long hours of hard work, loos and tents have to be ordered several months before the date, judges and stewards have to be found, plus the million and one other things that have to be done by a small dedicated team, never mind how is it being financed, all these things just do not enter into most competitors heads. So do not be surprised if the entries closing date comes and goes and you have many sleepless nights worrying about it, competitors will suddenly wake up to the fact they should have sent their entries in two weeks ago, and you will (hopefully) get enough entries to run with.

Competitors - have you ever wondered why organisers mostly have grey hair? Late entries are a major cause. How about on 1 January 2010 you make every organiser a promise - to get your entries in before the closing date. Oh! just pie in the sky - but one can dream.............
