You could also contact the police. Your friend might believe them! |

Ruth. I can't get the relevant legislation to download but this will come under the Construction and Use Regulations 1986 - in essence a horse trailer is not constructed to carry passengers so cannot legally be used to do so. Also there would be an offence under seat belt legislation (esp if child is under 14), carrying a passenger in a dangerous manner under Road Traffic Act and, if there is an accident and the child is killed then manslaughter would not be out of the question. Of course what is really needed is a law against being a stupid parent! If you ring your local VOSA station they are very helpful and will point you in the right direction. |

Thanks Rita but i need the evidence to make the point: where is this stated? I have looked on BHS website and cant find anything on there. Some has given me a number of a horse box and trailer association that i can ring but just looking for the primary reference to prove to them as they dont seem to beleive me when i said it was dangerous and i thought it illeagal! |

Not only is this very dangerous it is also against the law and has been for many years. The same law applies to caravans. |

Hi, somone on our yard seems to think it is acceptable to allow their child to travel in the trailer with their horse. I have suggested this is not safe but they seem to think it is acceptable! Has anyone a refernece/ link to evidence this is against the law, or is it leagal? |
