Hi Diane, Midlands Driving Trials Group have ODE events at most of their competitions, all of which are undertaken in marathon mode i.e. axels in, groom on the carriage as when you're undertaking marathon and the correct clothing / head gear for that phase too. Look forward to seeing you out and about! |

Hi, Diane, almost every club has a set of rules and guidelines and a programme of events and publishes a yearbook with all this information in it. Each event may be slightly different and may have variations on arrival time, what you wear, the dressage tests, how many obstacles there are, how long the marathon is, and so on. Read the schedule for each event to know what to expect - it may also say if there is a water obstacle or a water crossing on the course, if there are pigs near the course, if it's hilly going... also rosettes and special trophies or prizes awarded. The organisers will try to match expectations with what they plan and deliver. You can see the East Anglian Carriage Driving Group's schedules on our events page and read our yearbook on the home page of our website, www.eacdg.co.uk, for example. Each club has its own rules and variations, too. You can download the BC rules book (free) from www.britishcarriagedriving.co.uk - I recommend you do this and read it. Some of it will be useful! When you get to know the basic etiquette, you'll stay popular with the organisers - always ask if you are unsure. Offer to help and you will earn Brownie points - and learn more! e.g. (EACDG's rules) Wear a hard hat when you go exercising riding or on a carriage/motorbike or quad bike; never take a dog into a dressage, cones arena or obstacle... don't tie your pony to fences; leave your area tidy and clean - mostly considerate common sense, "health and safety" guidelines! Having fun (safely) is most important of all... |

... and at White Horse Harness Club on Sunday it is posh gear and axles out for the dressage and cones - you need to ask the organisers ... did you have an event in mind? |

Hi Diane, it depends on the club, it should say on the schedule. Bradbourne events you wear Marathan gear for all 3 phases. |

Do you wear marathon wear for precision and paces, or do you need to be dressed up? |
