My youngster was started in a Nathe mouth Liverpool on the ring, goes like a dream in it... But under saddle, he's still in his 'breaking bit' which is a double link fulmer with a copper roller in the middle- he loves that too. They work totally differently, but yet the horse goes the same. Took me a while to figure it out but it has come down to me schooling him the same way ridden or driven. However, it's fairly easy to do when you have a baby from scratch- sometimes you have to deal with previous owner's poor decisions, bad hands etc, and the effect that they have had on the horse, especially those who have found ways to evade a correct way of going, and that's where bitting correctly can help you out. Good luck |

Yep, I understand that, but its just trying to find something he is comfortable in, so then he is happy in his work. |

Just keep trying different bits until you find one he likes, and goes how you want. Have lessons and school, school, school. |

Hi Diane, I drive Cookie in a Happy Mouth Liverpool. He used to put his head in the air with ordinary Liverpool. Now he is much happier, and we have a better head & neck position. Sue |

There seems so many choices of bit, and I am interested to know, which bit do you drive in, and why that particular one? I drive donovan in a mullen mouth butterfly, purely because thats the one we started in, and sems to suit him? But he does go very very overbent when I have the reins on the bottom hole, but quite strong if I move it up one. Whay do you use, and why??? |
