Hi, Diane, in the EACDG yearbook there is a "frequently asked questions" section which will answer some of your concerns. You can download the yearbook free from the home page, www.eacdg.co.uk. There's also a section about working out your marathon times or use Mike Watts' smartphone app to help you calculate your times (the time you need to aim for when you get to each kilometre marker on the marathon) - use it on your PC here - www.mw5.com/mt.html or go to www.mikewatts.com to get the phone app (free). I suggest, if you can, find a friend (or ask the organiser if you can buddy someone) and backstep for him/her at an event and you will learn a lot that will help you when you start to compete. There is a lot to learn and, altho' we try to be helpful here, you'll learn much more by helping someone - and you'll be more confident of getting it right when you drive yourself... and (I think) have loads more fun! |

The innovation class at Normanhurst involves the following elements of the competition. Saturday - Dressage followed by cones. Sunday - Section E only of The Marathon, that is the last section that includes a minimum of 6 obstacles. This will be run to times according to status of the animal (horses - ponies - small ponies, all have different allowed time per kilometre) This is ideal for new competitors or introducing a horse/pony to driven eventing. Hope this helps. |

Hi Diane not every club runs events exactly the same but we in the EACDG run a small pony (11.2 &under ) class where the whole class drives the same dressage test ,same cones course as all the other competitors but with more time allowance & then Sec E only ( the fun bit with the obstacle in ) of the marathon which is usually around 7 km distance & again more time allowance of I think 6 mins per km which a fit well prepared small pony should manage with ease .. not sure if Normanhurst will be similar but why not ask ?? Rita or Dick will be more than happy to unravel the mystery for you ! |

Hi Diane, Section E only would be the obstacles. You'd do dressage, cones and obstacles - no marathon. |

I am interested in going to Normanshurst 2 day event, but not sure ponio is fit enough for the marathon. It has been mentioned I could just do section E, but what does that mean??? |
