You also need to be careful of your axle weights - overloading an axle is possible even if your overall weight is within limits.

Be very careful of your payload, just because they fit doesnt mean its legal. Most 3.5 ton have a payload of 1.1 ton to include everything people, harness, water, diesel, feed, carriage etc.Check if the payload given includes a full tank diesel.

Hi
I have a 3.5t ford transit horsebox and have just had it converted to fit my 3 phase carriage and a 12h pony. The carriage goes in first then a partition goes across and my pony stands sideways at the back of the box.
It works perfectly, and the box is very cheap to run and insure, also anyone with a normal car licence can drive them :-)

Good luck and happy hunting.
Sam

Hi, Guest, best to measure your carriage - and pony - and make absolutely sure everything will fit in, and turn, if you need to do so - and, as I'm sure you have done, to make allowance for all the other stuff you need to pack in. If you can, go to some local shows or driving trials and look for vehicles which might suit you and chat to people - almost always they are very helpful! There are many different ways to fit everything in and you are sure to get lots of ideas and useful advice - if you are around Sandringham this Friday and weekend, go and have a look?

You might also want to think of something for side stabling or a fixing for a simple awning or shelter or pen if you might be staying overnight in the future. Needn't be expensive...

I am new to the sport and would like some advice please on purchasing a 2 horsebox to carry one pony and a 3 phase carriage. I have looked at a Citreon Relay Chaigley Duo type of vehicle but are not sure this would be suitable. Could anyone help. Thanks
