I am sorry to hear that Farleigh is struggling to get entries. It's my favourite event, very friendly with excellent facilities, a good testing course through beautiful countryside, and well built obstacles with excellent viewing for spectators.

I can't compete this year with the pressures of the course I'm on, but I really hope the event will still be running when I'm in a position to return to more competing.

Rita, I agree we competitors don't make life easy for the hard-working organisers by entering events late. Now it's £150 or so it might be making a difference to those who are dithering about entering, for whatever reason - horse not fit enough or work commitments not resolved -until the closing date. Most events, quite reasonably, don't give any refunds, so if you have any doubt about your entry, you'll enter as late as possible. I don't know what the answer is other than to give a small discount to those entering earlier, as some events do... and thanks for a fantastic event at Brighton!

As Secretary to the 'Indoors' I find myself also being Secretary to Brighton & Normanhurst HDT's. All are great fun events, meeting lots of nice people (with the odd difficult one!) which makes all the time spent well worth while, BUT what I can't understand is WHY competitors can't make up their minds to compete and send their entry in until the last minute.
Brighton is now just a few weeks ago is a faded memory as we are now planning for Brighton 2008.
Surely if the organisers of events plan so far ahead to give competitors an event to compete at, and maybe qualify for the National Championship THEN WHY CAN'T COMPETITORS SEND IN THEIR ENTRY IN GOOD TIME. How are organisers expected to organise a good event when number of competitors are not known until a couple of weeks before the event. There is so much to arrange (without some idea of numbers it is difficult to order the loos, skips etc, not enough and there are complaints - too many and it cost the event money it can't afford to waste) and so little time to do it in. So PLEASE competitors, send your entry in well before the closing date, make your cheque payable on the closing date if you are unsure if you will compete or your bank balance will not cope with it until then.

Come on all competitors, put your entry in early and make sure all the events will run or you may well find events disappearing from your diary and eventually the sport will suffer. It is the competitors choice, will horse driving trials continue or will some of them die never to be again.

Last year I drove 3,900 miles to steward at events all over the Country (my second name is anorak). One of the most enjoyable and most friendly of events is the one at Farleigh. I am disappointed to see from this web site that entries are down at the moment, threatening it's survival for this year.

Come on competitors get your entries in please, spectators and stewards will miss the spectacle you provide.
