Sorry could'nt disagree more! Compared with the previous Novice test the 2011 is much easier to learn & drive. All the driving marker points are based on the Letters ,making it easy to practice components of in a much smaller field , then transfer on the day . Yes there are a few busy parts from walk to working to collected , but also some substantial free flowing working trot sections.

I have been practicing the Novice 80 for an inside out event, and was amazed at the difficulty level. More like an intermediate test.

I moved up into novice horse this season and i like the BHDTA Novice 80 & Novice 100 test better than the pre-novice test. The novice test keeps running smoothly. I found the pre-novice test was choppy and i always forgot the test.

My daughter Ruth has driven a Novice 80 test today. She has not competed outside for about 2 years. Am i out of touch with Novice dressage?, i thought she had learn't the wrong test. One handed, good practice! but short extended and collected trot circles with 2 tiny walks. Surely we are mean't to be encouraging the novice drivers, be they old, young, new to the sport. Or young ponies. You will reply that we can do Pre Novice H/C but surely Novice should be as stated on the sheet, Paces - Regularity, Freedom, and Maintenance of paces. And Impulsion - Free Forward Movement. I would say that Novice 80 does not help the driver achieve these guide lines as the test is so choppy, i think everyone accepts halt and rein back, but i thought it hard for a Novice driver to excecute, and don't think it can be an easy test to judge.
