Hi, Nicolette, we publish our cones course maps and you can copy these - or use parts of them. David Taylor, our esteemed chairman, designed this one - and successfully eliminated himself and half the open horse class driving it on Saturday! (tee hee) See the Announcements forum under our Euston event posting and click the link. The cones course is on the document so you can print the page for yourself. Have fun! Fiona, EACDG secretary. |

Hi Nocolette, there are examples of how to set features of cones courses up in the BHDTA rule book and there have been articles in Carriage Driving Magazine too. If you follow the rules about distance apart from one pair of cones to another i.e for singles there is a minimum distance between one pair of cones and the next [the exception being in parts of the course such as zig zags or boxes] is 165cm for novice or 160cm for open. A way we set ours up at home is to set a course up of 4 pairs on a 20m circle e.g have a pair at 12 o'clock, a pair at 3 o'clock, a pair at 6 o'clock and a pair at 9 o'clock, have the inside cone set on the circumfrance of your circle and you can then drive that clockwise and anti clockwise or just practice appraoching a single pair at different angles too. If you want to try a serpentine set the inside of the cones on a straight line about 12m apart, and you drive 'S' shapes between them as you drive [ the reality is it's like a serpentine in the dressage test so you are straight acorss the centre line, the striaght line you've made with your row of cones, and do your loops to make the turns to get straight for the next cone]. Hope that makes sense!! If you are a member of a club the TD I'm sure would be happy to give you copies of old cones courses they've designed so you can get ideas from them too - our club [ MDTG] always display a copy of the course in the secretaries caravan so at the end of the comp. you could ask for the picture to take home! Good Luck, Ruth |

HI everyone, Is it possible to find diagrams of cones courses? I want them to help me build appropriate courses for my daughter to practise. If so, where do you think I might find them please? Many thanks nicolette |
