Patti, I wonder if it was the same bit I saw. I spoke to the driver and he explained that it wasa Felix Brasseur bit that swivelled. Perhaps the driver will read this and explain further.

Fiona Thank you so much for the article on bitting I found it very interesting indeed. I have been trying a Myler driving bit on the top ring this has a lozenge in the middle & independant sides which she seems comfortable with although not yet relaxed. It is very early days for her transition to driving and we are taking things in our stride but I will bear in mind all that was said in the article many thanks again Barbara

Fiona - an excellent article - well worth the read. It could be very enlightening to a driver I saw at the weekend with his horse on bottom slot of a 3 slot straight bar liverpool!

You should be able to get the rubber mouth piece on a driving cheek.

Thank you both for that. I changed her bit as I was under the impression a driving bit was in order ! also I didnt think a pelham would be suitable especially as I had difficulty handling two sets of reins. Golly I have made this complicated. I will definately try roundings. Many thanks again for your input its great to have the support. Best of luck this season.

No reason why you can't keep the rubber pelham and try roundings?

why have you changed bit Barbara? if your horse is happy in the pelham and you have good contact etc why change something that doesn't need to be?

Does anyone have any suggestions please. I have been riding my porse for years in a rubber pelham she comes down with a tweek when asked. She has taken to driving well & have been using a metal mullen mouth but I am lost without the curb rein. Have tried driving with 2 sets of reins but it is not ideal ! She mildly responds on the first bar but I dont want to go any further down as she doesnt need the pressure. I would be very grateful please for any advice.
