Thanks Mike,
I am a member of Chester HDT group and they put on a wonderful training weekend in April which we attended, trouble is I could do with one every fortnight! I must hasten to add that I couldn't wish for a friendlier and more helpful bunch as the chester, especially Lyn, Colin and Lesley they really nurse-maided us last week at Mostyn where unfortunatly we had to miss out on the best bit- the bit we were looking forward to most- The Marathon - because my horse injured himself in the trailer on the way home on Saturday. ( suppose that strengthens the case for staying overnight! )We are now looking forward to Egerton Hall in a fortnight.

Hi Carole,

I hope someone from your area will respond about driving training in Cheshire.

Certainly there are places in our region - East Anglia - where you can hire a dressage arena or practice driving in obstacles and water, by the hour, with or without lessons - for instance Blandings and Ashfields - see www.eacdg.co.uk. We also hold driving training camps and you'd be welcome, though your local area might be easier for you....

If there is a water obstacle the event schedule should say, and it's likely the prenovices would do it too. You could check with the event organiser if it's not clear.

People practice cones and obstacles different ways. We use small traffic cones for regular practice - from www.screwfix.com or elsewhere, as they're cheaper than driving cones, and you can use them for cones practice - circles, figures of 8, slalom, or for more obstacle-like shapes, like a 3m grid pattern.

Hope that helps and that some people in your area can help...

Hello all
A new and very green convert here! Having recently upgraded from riding to driving using my partners' ex harness racer, I need to introduce as much variety as possible into his training as he's only really seen racetracks! Does anybody know whereabouts I might be able to get some safe water practice in the Cheshire area? Also how likely is it that pre-novice would have to negotiate water? Also does anyone have cones courses to practice in and obstacles or do you just have to get to a competition and pray!?
In the riding world there are always places where you can practice ( for a fee ) your showjumping or cross country jumping and even hire a dressage arena. At our first pre novice last week our dressage was ruined by the blobs of sawdust placed at the markers down the centre line! They might as well have been fire-breathing dragons!
Guess what we're practising with at the moment.
All replies gratefully received.
