Brighton Entries close soon! Entries could be a lot better. Many events will soon be on a "use it or lose it" basis.

From the competitors point of view the costs of producing a fit horse and then transporting it to events have increased considerably.

From the organisers point of view, the costs of running a event have gone up even more. Land owners have seen their income go down over the last few years and consider a show of any kind "a nice little earner". Venue hire can be as little as a few hundred pounds or up to multiple thousands of pounds. Loo hire, rosettes, tentage, obstacle building material (wood - posts -rails) etc., has all gone up.

This is why it is so important to get your entries in well before the closing date. Organisers have got to know how much income from entries and possible sponsorship so facilities can be ordered. Ordering fifteen toilets several weeks ahead when ten would be more like the number required, is funds spent badly and so putting the following years event in the doubtful bracket. This is just an example.

So please get your entries in early, post date your cheques to the closing date.

Just as a matter of interest:
WHERE ARE ALL THE INTERMEDIATE PONIES? Is there really on-one leaving the ranks of Novice Pony brave enough to move up to Intermediate class?

The Indoor Team are looking forward to welcoming everyone to Brighton HDT at the begining of May. Good entry of Horse Fours to date that should provide some exciting obstacle times.

Yes the price of fuel is going up along with the cost of feed and every other thing we need to keep our animals and compete at events. Obviously this follows on with the organising costs of Driving Trials.
Many competitors leave entering until the last possible date, this is not helpful to event organisers.
There are so many things that have to be sorted well before the event. Without some idea of income from entries (at some event's, entries are the only income) how is it decided on subjects like:
* how many loos?
* how many times do they need servicing during the event?
* how big does the catering area need to be?
* how skips? etc., etc., ...... and so it goes on.
This is a plead to all competitors thinking about eventing this season, especially competitors at the first National event (Brighton) this season, as this event is usually the benchmark for the rest of the season.
* Do not leave entering until the last possible date.
* Post your entries of at least two weeks before closing date.
* Post date you entry cheque for the entry closing date.If you need to withdraw your cheque could be shredded rather than posted back to you.
* Make sure all details are correct on your entry form including ALL numbers.
* Make sure your backstepper has BHDTA membership.

The above is just a few things that will help make YOUR EVENT a good event as we, the organisers, have full co-operation of competitors
and know that our event will be well attended and NOT AT RISK OF BEING CANCELLED due to LACK OF ENTRIES = lack of income to pay for facilities required (including hire charges of venue).
So please get your entries to the event secretary in good time at ALL events.

Thank you all in adavance for your co-operation this coming summer season of Horse Driving Trials.

Lets hope the weather is kind to us this season.
