The South of Scotland Countryside Trails have a brochure detialing rides throught the Borders from Edinburgh to Kielder. I don't know how many would be suitable for carriages however they have developed this partnerships between BHS Scotland, various Councils and bodies responsible for paths - I'm not sure how much of it would be driveable but might be worth investigating. There is also an extensive list of B&Bs along the routes. www.southofscotlandcountrysidetrails.co.uk |

Cathy Towle has asked me to post this: Just for info. a couple of hitches still exist re. The Lindsey Trail. Once these are sorted and the route round the Lincolnshire Wolds formally opened, the Lincolnshire County Council who have organized a great deal of the work involved) have offered to put full details on their Countryside Access website so that they can be easily printed off and carried by drivers |

Depending on the activity in your area, the British Driving Society as well as many regional driving groups host a number of rallies throughout the year. This is a great way of exploring new routes and meeting friendly like minded drivers. As a BDS member, you are also eligible to take part in any BDS ralli in the country, (just have you BDS card or proof of insurance). We have some fantastic drives here in West Wales, from beach drives through to forest drives and all are welcome! |

Carol - this is a HUGE task and believe me, I am working with all the societies you suggest (or will be) and others. As for a book - well, watch this space - or read Carriage Driving!!! |

Would it be possible for someone to compile a leaflet/book of drives throughout the country, maybe with overnight stops rather like that produced by the BHS -' Bed and Breakfast for Horses (and Carriages)'? It would be such a shame for those of us with limited off-road driving to know only about 'the best' when some of us might consider even a mile of off-road a luxury!!!! Maybe we could conjoin with bridleways groups and TROT and find byways that can be linked by permissive routes. . . . . . .etc. |

If you have a route you would like to share with other carriage drivers - please let me know! If you could email me in the first instance with details of where the route is, how long, whether linear or circular that will be a start. Don't know how many routes I can include so could be a case of selecting the best, in which case I will need digital images - but that can be discussed later. Caroline - one of the first routes to be featured will be the Lindsey Trail in South Lincs. The official opening will take place sometime in the Spring. Email me on kingswood.associatesxxxbtconnect.com (delete xxx and insert @) I look forward to having an Inbox full of carriage driving routes! |

Psst, don't tell anyone about Rendlesham Forest, near Woodbridge, close to the Suffolk coast. Wide sandy and firm tracks (passable in all weathers) through varied forest and heathland: you can drive and ride for hours without crossing your path. B+B, stabling or grazing and lessons available, riding and driving. |

Hi Pam. I am writing a series for Carriage Driving magazine looking at off-road routes. October's issue has an introductory article which will be followed by a look at how routes are created (or maintained) in December. Next year the magazine will feature a number of routes (long distance and shorter) so any information you can provide about the routes you already drive or new ones would be appreciated. Please contact me on kingswood.associatesxxxbtconnect.com (delete the xxx and insert @) Look forward to hearing from you and anyone else who would like to tell me about known routes - thank you. |

My friend and I go out for drives (about 7 - 10 miles) on Sunday mornings and are looking for different rural routes to explore. We can box up and drive to the start point which could be up to 20 miles from Rudgwick (about 7 miles west of Horsham in W.Sussex). I'd be really grateful if anyone could recommend a nice route to take as we've exhausted all the ones in our immediate area, lovely as they are, and are keen to explore further afield! |
