Tim - you're famous! Now that grooms areable to go round twice would you like to backstep for us at Holker aswell? Matt won't let you near the seatbelt and i'll try not to tip you out! |

Not many drivers in Australia wear a seat belt. However at a CAN here in January 2010, the sharp-eyed POJ spotted a driver with a seat belt strapped to the carriage. As the rule had only just been introduced by FEI and we were conducting the event under the previous version of the rules, the driver was awarded a yellow card instead of elimination. Elizabeth and Lorraine were both at the event in Australia and were thus made well aware of the rule. We all feel for Tim but these things happen and we learn from our eliminations. |

I've just been told the scorers computer crashed on Sunday and scoring was done manually on the day. Please bear with us. |

As a back stepper myself I felt for Elizabeths groom. He admitted that he did not know that rule and is gutted. However, from experience, all those who do use seatbelts make sure that the strap is not too long. It is very easy in the heat of the moment or when passing from hand to hand to have the loose end wrap itself around the handrail without you noticing (and the sharp eyed judge will). I am lucky in this respect that my driver does not use a seat belt so it is one less thing to worry about. Good luck to Elizabeth at Holker. Your horse is stunning! |

Nothing like finding a friendly photographer in the crowd. I'm sure your photos will be put to good use Emma. Probably for the Aussie blog which keeps us all at home informed and entertained. Thank you. |

They're a forward lot these ozzies.... there I was, minding my own business watching obs 7&8, and one pops up, shoves a camera in my hand and asks me to snap away. So I did! Hope there was something useable out of them! |

Steve, that is tragic news about Pablo. What a disappointment for Pam. I will email her privately. We wondered why she hadn't competed at Catton or Erddig. Yes back home and into the family routines again. Was a great trip. |

Thanks you Guy, that has saved me trawling through the rule book for tonight at least ! and G`Day to you Dot, I think you are right! Unfortunatly I will have plenty of time to read up on the rules this year, You probably wont know that Pablo picked up a check ligamaent injury at Sandrigham and will be out for the rest of the season. Pam is gutted, not just because of the injury, but also as she wont get the wear the smart new jacket again this year!! Good to hear from you, Hope both Dug and yourself are now well rested and recovered from your European trip. Take care. Maybe see you next year ??? |

Thanks for the update Steve. What a shame for Elizabeth. Yes, the rule has been in for some time now. Bedtime reading for you now is the rule book. Good luck! |

See below for rule details. 917.2.5 No person may be tied to the Vehicle in any way during the Competitions. A Competitor may be secured by rope, webbing or belt, provided one end is held by a Groom and not wrapped or fastened to the Vehicle in any way. Failure to comply will result in Elimination. |

Just back from Erddig after watching the marathon, Sorry to report that Elizabeth was eliminated from the Comp after compleating the marathon. It seems she was wearing a seatbelt that is fitted to the carriage she us using, and Tim had looped the end of the belt around the frame of the carriage. A judge stppped them as they left obstical 8 and eliminated them as the driver was deemed to be " tied into the carriage" When I left she was dissapointed about the marathon, but still very happy to have finished a very close 2nd to Sarah Garnett in the dressage on Friday. I have to say as a backstepper myself, this is a rule I was not aware of. Time to get the rule book out and have a good look through again i think !! Regards Steve. (backstep for Pam Neill) |
