Don't do what I did when we first started driving. (You know, when dinosaurs roamed the earth). I forgot my spares kit so borrowed a friends at the last minute, stuck it on my carriage and went of to presentation. Only to have the judge open it and find my "friend's" cigarettes and lighter in there! It was Carol Mansfield and she just looked at me and said "It's not that bad is it?".

Kathleen you should have a hoof pick, a hole punch, a rein splice and trace splice (that's a piece of leather the same thickness as the rein/trace with a buckle on each end - then if a rein breaks you punch holes and use the splice to fasten then two ends. Some people use heavy duty cable ties now.) A piece of baler twine, a lead rope and a fine headcollar are useful. If you are using lamps you should have matches and maybe a spare bit of candle. A pound coin and a packet of polos are sometimes found in kits and people are often inventive using collapsable water buckets etc but it doesn't need to be too comprehensive. I have a shifting spanner and a small two ended spanner that fits the nuts on my carriage and I take a sponge on the marathon. I bought a small carrier from a cycle shop and it all goes in there.

What do I need in it? Competing pre- novice with a single pony.

Anyone got a list?

Thank you!
