Julia,
Once we sort out the house move we hope to get them altogether so we will have to wait and see how quickly they respond to it.

Hi Danielle,
It seems a little light has been shed on the matter! I see the BHDTA have received a statement on Monday this week from the FEI making things clearer. Obviously you can't backdate vaccinations but the FEI doesn't require you to, and you only need to restart your ponies if you have gone over your annual booster. All you need to do is give them a 6 month jab if your annual is more than 6 months from the event! In the text from the FEI paragraph 7 it says when changing from annual to bi-annual you do not have to re-start. Quite a financial saving too. I notice you mentioned 5 ponies. Does this mean we will be welcoming you to pony teams next season? Hope so.

I think there was warning of it actually, quite a while back - can't remember when exactly, maybe two years back or more? I started my boys on the six month ones then learned that as long as you weren't intending competing Internationally annual boosters were fine.

Well said Julie. I would like to add that if they have only just decided that they need to be jabbed 6 monthly as of now, how the hell are we supposed to back date them as of 2005. We are hoping in the future to compete internationally but now 3 out of the 5 ponies will have to start the whole course again because we weren't told about this in 2005. If we were pre-warned we would have started 6 monthly booster in 2005 as a run up to going internationally.

Hi, I am intrigued to read both this post and the notice on the frontpage! At the beginning of this year I borrowed a pony to go into my team in the run up to selection for Dorthealyst. He had always been on annual vaccinations so I thoroughly checked the requirements for moving him to 6 monthly vaccs. After much discussion involving Amanda in the office, the FEI and Jill Holah I was told that there is no protocol for moving from 12 to 6 monthly vaccs and that the requirement was that a horse/pony should have been vaccinated WITHIN 6 months but not less than 7 days of an event. Therefore all I needed to do was to give my pony an extra jab 6 months after his last annual. At Farleigh all our passports were collected and properly checked and my ponies were given the ok. Furthermore it transpired that if your horse/pony happened to have his annual vaccs at the beginning of the season i.e. April/May he would not need to have an extra jab at all. So unless the FEI have revised and re-written the rules to clarify in the last six months this remains a very grey and confusing area!

Hi Sonny. Please have a look at the reference section on this website - this has a page about vacciantion which explains the situation. Basically, as Geoff says, you need 6 monthly for FEI (CAI competitions, e.g. Royal Windsor) and annual for Nationals.

Hi Sonny, page 212 and 213, article 5 of the rule book 2007 deal with this.
Your vet is correct...6 months for internationals, otherwise 12 months
All the best
