Plaiting a mane does not effect anyone’s presentation in any class but it looks much nicer plaited. It's whether you wish to plate up your horses mane but it is not necessary |

Sorry I did mean presentation marks in the dressage phase not actual marks for the movements. |

Dianne - Plaiting or not should not make a difference to the DRESSAGE mark, although it could well make a difference to the presentation mark. Judges training - Guidelines for Presentation (2010) state -"Manes, if not plaited, should be level, and lie flat". I do agree that a 'clean limbed' animal, even if not plaited, should have its heels trimmed. |

From experience and talking to judges, it seems to be correct to have clipped/trimmed legs if plaited (any turnout). In my opinion, unless you have a native or a cute person with a tidy mane, ie Gypsy, neat plaiting improves the look of a turnout and can gain valuable marks in dressage. |

I would for a Hackney - I don't remove Gypsy's as he is an Irish cob and he suits them. Natives can get away with it but anything with a bit of blood should be trimmed and plaited. |

Would you clip/trim a hackneys feather on legs for HDT? |
