Poor foal. It might be a bit thick but that is no way to introduce a youngster to driving. The RSPCA might have something to say!!!!!!! |

Hi, Joe, you can buy padding with a nice vinyl cover and a zip. Probably any carriage supplier would be able to help you... This is what I did! I got some not-too-squashy foam - about 2" thick or so - and wrapped it round the pole, securing it with cable ties, making sure any hard sticking-out bits were facing the ground. Then I sewed a long tube of medium to heavyweight upholstery vinyl and made a hem at one end and threaded a shoe lace through it. Just fold over and hem the other end to make it stronger. Then put cover on pole like a giant sock and tie the lace at the front end so it looks neat. Remember to make the pole cover long enough that you can lengthen the pole for dressage and shorten it or fit a different head for the marathon (if you do). I found that putting a "sock" of Lycra on over the foam makes it smoother and easier to change the vinyl. If you are feeling posh, make a cover for every-day use and another for best! If you want a cover for the spring end, I copied my old one before it fell apart, again making it with foam and upholstery vinyl and securing it with Velcro. If you use Velcro, make sure you use the widest sort - about 1.5" and stitch it really well on to the vinyl as otherwise it comes apart, in my experience. Let me know how you get on? |
