An email entitled "Popcorn - this will blow your mind" has recently circulated among many carriage drivers. This has a link to a video clip on a website called Dailymotion. The email and the website are harmless and it is quite safe to click on the link and watch the video. The video clip shows a group of people placing four mobile phones in a square, with some pieces of popcorn in the centre. Somebody then rings all the mobiles and the implication is that the radiation from the phones makes the pieces of popcorn "pop". The accompanying email has the words: "This is probably what it does to our brain cells - like putting your head in a microwave ! Check this out! And we're supposed to believe that mobile phones are safe?" I'm sure that most people will have by now realised that this video is a fake. In case you are in any doubt, it is quite impossible for a mobile phone, powered by a small battery, to generate the power levels required to perform this "feat". Microwave ovens typically require over 1kW of power (1,000 watts) from the mains and a metal enclosure to contain the microwaves in order to make this work. For a mobile phone, with a power input of less than 1 Watt to perform this trick, in the open, is totally impossible. Laws of physics and all that. Indeed, if this was possible, we would have limitless amounts of free energy for everyone. No proper scientific study to date has put forward any conclusive evidence that mobile phone radio waves produce any harmful effects. The video, however, is quite entertaining and you can wathch it here: www.dailymotion.com/video/x5odhh_pop-corn-telephone-portable-micro-o_news Please remember that it's very easy to fake videos or photographs of almost anything and the intenet is full of them. If anything looks too amazing to be true, then it most likely is !!! Happy viewing. Vic. |
