Hi, Liz - you can get the forms from this site - on the home page, click Reference, Club Paperwork, Competence Assessment There are four forms and I suggest you print them all to get the idea what it's all about! You must be assessed by an approved person, LHHI, BDS level III or IV, BHDTA national judge or someone who has competed at open level for at least 3 years at BHDTA national outdoor events (indoor open class does not count!) The assessor fills in the four-page form and you keep the one-page certificate and show this (or send a copy) to your local event organiser. n.b. I suggest you talk to your local organiser or club secretary to make sure you are assessed by someone who fits the bill! It's mainly to make sure you are aware of safety for you, your horse and those around you in a public place - stuff like: not tying up a horse in his driving bridle, putting the reins on the bridle before you put to, not taking the bridle off or changing it when the horse is in the carriage making sure there is always someone on the carriage, sitting down, holding the reins when the horse is in the carriage, etc. Good ol' 'Elf an' Safety! Hope this helps! |
