Rules were changed some time ago... Passengers are no longer allowed. Rule 917.2.8 (on Page 35) refers (Am I a sad anorak to look that up?) |

I went as a passenger - ie: with apron. The Judge marked us down as "groom does not need apron" Be aware as almost always the 2nd person is a groom, many judges have forgotten that there may be a passenger!! |

Many thanks for the advice Mike & Steph. That's another one of my many questions answered! |

Would also add that it is only the driver who needs an apron not the groom. I learnt this to my cost at my first standing presentation when I had us both with aprons ('cos I thought that was correct) and the judge said "is he a passenger or a groom" after my blank look she went on to explain that a passenger has an apron but a groom does not. I think this is right but expect somebody with more knowledge will correct me if I am wrong. See you at Euston. Steph |

Dean, yes Eacdg runs to the BHDTA/FEI rules so the driver needs jacket, driving apron, hat and gloves for dressage and cones - or you lose 5 points in dressage and 5 in cones. Homemade or borrowed driving aprons are fine.... |

Folks, the 2 day event at Euston at the end of the month will be my first formal dressage, having done just indoor and 1 day marathon gear before. I have the smart clothing (as does my groom), but I would like to know if a driving apron is essential/preferred? Will I be docked points for not having one? (Lord knows I need the points, cos my dressage is less than wonderful!!) Don't have one yet and will get one if needed, but have other things to spend funds on if not a requirement. Any pointers/advice greatly appreciated |
