Carole Redgrave had a good response from her local newspaper. If you contact your local newspaper they more often than not will write a story about the sport. The coverage that could be generated if more people contacted their local press would be a great starting point and would soon start getting the sport noticed at a local level and that is surely a good place to start with publicity. Carriage Driving and In Harness offer the best coverage for people already involved in the sport. Supporting these magazines by taking out a subscription is the best way to get quality publications about the sport. http://www.inharness.moonfruit.co.uk/ http://www.carriage-driving.com/cgi-bin/go.pl/subscribe/index.html In-Harness is my favourite but I read both publications, they both give excellent coverage of the sport. We need to look at both areas of publicity within the sport, using these two publications. Publicity to the wider market through other more general publications including the local press. Well done to Carole and the other people who got similar articles in their local newspapers. They are getting the sport excellent coverage. Why don't we post our own thoughts and experiences about the British Indoor Driving Finals here? I'd be fascinated to know other people's impressions. In open pony class we had really good competition, very friendly, very positive - very determined! I really enjoyed the competition - altho' I'd prefer to go back to the two-day format. Katie Eyres was our class's very well-deserved winner and Reserve Champion, having already taken the pony pairs winner's sash back to her lorry, but it could have been almost anyone's. I enjoyed the obstacles phase yet I'd like to see a better choice of routes next time. Yes, more publicity for our sport would be great... |

Or "In Harness"... The beauty of Horse and Hound is that it is always on display at your local supermarket. I therefore rarely feel the need to buy a copy! |

Absolutely agree, Judy. I was so looking forward to reading it this morning and like you I emailed them straightaway when I couldn't find it. This was the reply I received from Pippa Roome:- "Thank you for your email. I’m sorry you were disappointed not to see the report from the indoor driving championships in this week’s issue. It is all ready and on the page and (unexpected events withstanding) will be in H&H next week, 23 April. We did plan to run this report in today’s issue, 16 April, but unexpected changes to the number of pages in the magazine meant it had to be held over for next week. We do always try to run reports as early as possible so that the magazine is as up to date as possible, but there are sometimes changes to the number of pages due to how many adverts are booked etc. I can assure you H&H remains committed to covering driving and hope you enjoy the report next week." It's all about reader figures - so the more people who tell them the better. It's also disappointing and discouraging for sponsors who are generous enough to back our sport, if they don't get press coverage. The whole winter series has received minimal mention in H&H so let's hope that the summer events receive more attention. Can this thread be put on the Indoor Forum as well? |

Despite the promise in last weeks edition Horse and Hound have failed to print any form of report about our National Indoor Final. It's no wonder we get little recognition and support from the equestrian world if our only National Equestrian magazine can't be bothered to even print the smallest report. I have emailed my disappointment to the editor and suggest that as many of you as possible do the same. If they think that there are enough of us out there who read H&H and care then they might start printing a few reports. Judy Broom |
