I'm in Larkhill Vicky. I'm looking for a back stepper for exercising on the Plain if you know anyone!

Hi Lesley - I look forward to meeting you at WHHC - it was a great place to get introduced to competition - they are very patient with me and my lack of knowledge ...

It sounds like you are streets ahead already with your experience backstepping - must be a great way to learn about all the different venues :-)

Hi Vicky,

Whereabouts in Wiltshire are you? I've just moved here from Kent and will also be trying to do some 2DEs later this season. I was planning to do some indoor this year but haven't quite managed to keep Floyd fit since moving!

I have back stepped for a friend at quite a few events (Ashfields, Sandringham, Windsor, Goodwood, Normanshurst) so know roughly what I'm letting myself in for!

I'll be sending my membership fees off to White Horse today so we will no doubt meet soon.

Hi Vicky,
I'm not sure if it will appeal to you or not, but Scropton Riding and Driving Centre hold Driving Fun Days (next one is Jan 26th). It's a nice friendly competition with plenty of help for everyone and anyone! Worth coming up in the car at least to watch :-)

Thank you for the info - all very useful - I am in Wiltshire and have done all of the WHHC events (made pretty well every mistake but Julia and her crew are very patient ;) ) the furthest we have travelled so far is to Worcester for a Midlands event and we will probably do more in the Midlands because they seem to have some awesome venues. I think there is a real opportunity here tho for Inharness (or some similar publication) to present a summary at the beginning of the season ... it could perhaps save a summary of the venue (purpose built or country estate etc), measure of difficulty 1-5 and suitability for genuine novice drivers, features such as hills and water etc etc ... used to be really useful when I was eventing ... Midlands provide some info but it could include more? Just an idea :-)

Very exciting! How about you tell us where you live and how far you would be prepared to travel? To be fair the events are all different - they all have their own flavour - and it is hard to place them on a scale of 'brilliantness' :D

Hi, Vicky, what an exciting time for you!

When you send a copy of your completed form and all the results to the BC office, your name will be put on the NQ list which is checked by event secretaries. You could send it by email for extra speed! Not everyone completes the form before entering NQs...

Reviews/event reports are published in magazines like Inharness, Carriage Driving and Horse & Hound, but I don't know of any "planner" (which is a great idea).

I can tell you a bit about Sandringham, Ashfields, Catton, also my experiences at Escrick, Allerton, Normanhurst, Goodwood and Windsor Park if you really have exhausted your friends! 01473 735732

As a newbie I am very excited about next season's competitions and I am trying to figure out which events would be best? I actually could do with a "driving competitions planner" sort of like a wedding planner to just tell me where to compete next! ;) To help me plan I have a couple of questions - just in case someone can help?

1) Once you have achieved you 3rd signed event - how long does it take to get BC approval to enter a Novice Qualifier - or can you enter on "spec"

2) Is there anywhere to look up reviews on all of the events (like you can for horse trials) so that I can gauge difficulty without having to keep bothering my lovely friends with stupid questions ;)

TIA Vicky
