I have had a lot of experiance with riding horses and ponies being "cold backed" but they haven't showed the same behaviour when being driven. Basically the horses and ponies I have had it's just tension of their muscles either in their back or the pectoral muscles. So over tightening the girth can be a problem. They walk with their backs very arched and look look like they have straightened their legs. If you were to trot before they had warmed up those muscles they would buck. They are all different though. However, bucking in a driving pony is really dangerous so the reason or cause of that behaviour really needs investigating. I would suggest an equine physio to assess your problem. It maybe simple muscle tightness and easily resolved with a little treatment or it coud be a major problem. Hope this helps |
