You would probably think it tastes like something that comes in a tanker Patti if you're a more serious wine drinker than I!!! :-))

Carole - where do you buy Lambrusco? Not sure that the GOBs will cope with that - may be too potent? Does it come by the tanker?

Oh, I come cheap as chips me. Not being a wine buff- just a cheap Lambrusco will do me fine! Am I hired? If so I'll get on the phone right away to The BBC- " Aim High " that's my motto!

Carole, I detect a certain flair here. Would you like to be in charge of publicity? I'm quite sure that Douglas and David will generate enough revenue to go around! If this position appeals to you, then we must see to the most important arrangements first - Please let Patti Atkinson know your choice in wine.

Oh Christine! How fortuitous that you should get in touch at this very moment in time! I was literally just thinking of you! I was considering exactly what will be needed to facilitate the 'Grumpy Old Men' tour - of course I shall be employing my superior managerial skills and Patti, as you have seen, will be my PA and in charge of beverages. It occurred to me however, that when David and Douglas burst onto the scene, the furore that is caused will be something akin to when Take That re-formed: Hysterical fans, fighting over tickets, laying siege to the stage door and attempting to throw unmentionable items onto the stage (mostly very large pants, I imagine). I could not think of a more perfect person to take on the role of security than your good self Christine?! After all, as you point out, you took exemplary care of my passport in foreign lands!

Patti - What an excellent idea! You're hired! I'm sure David and Douglas will easily earn enough that your salary will be covered. Don't worry about the sunblock, I've got plenty and I think it's still in date - you just organise the alcohol. I'm pretty sure Ryanair has a cargo division.

David/Dot,

With talk of Majorca and Australia, I think my job description DEFINITELY needs to move up from booking agent to Manager! However, I do think that the two of you will need time to work on and perfect your routine, so don't worry if, once we get out to these exotic places you don't see much of me. Just rest assured that I will be working very hard on your behalf at my pool-side villa . . er, I mean office! Still Jane Wilson, still in East Yorkshire (Now, where did I put that sunblock? . . )

The tour could come to Australia. We have a few Grumpy Old Men out here too!
Poor Douglas, copping all this. He (and of course Doreen) made me and my husband very welcome when we were in the UK this year.

Fiona, thanks starting a fund sounds good. I have'nt spoken to Douglas yet but I had thought that the tour could start in the early new year possibly starting with afew weeks in Majorca to get us in shape. A Uk tour could start after that ( depending on the size of the fund, Fiona ). All venues will be considered on their merits. David Stafford, News at Ten, Newcastle upon Tyne.

(The thought of you guys on tour... can we set up a fund to send you?!)

As Mike says, lots of people faithfully register and then forget their username/password and, were there no option to post anonymously, the moment would pass and we would lose their world-shattering thoughts or opportunity to buy their stunning horse/carriage/harness for ever.

We encourage people to leave a name and also their area (especially when selling), whatever they are posting about - but (I think) there is more to gain from continuing to allow this than we lose.

Lots of people read this but say they "daren't" post anything - sad but true when their opinions are just as valuable as others'.

My 0.002p's worth...

David, as I travel to and from NEDTL committee meetings with Douglas, (an hour's journey each way) I can testify to the fact that your stand-up tour will certainly not lack subjects for discussion between you and the North East's very own - and much loved - Victor Meldrew. In fact, perhaps I could offer to act as your booking agent (for a percentage, of course) which may afford me the opportunity to earn a double reward on the back of all our local council officials, members of parliament, parish council persons and dare I say it, the long-suffering Doreen, who may indeed be willing to pay to have the GOM's attention employed elsewhere! Do let me know. My user name is Jane Wilson and my location is East Yorkshire where I currently reside with my tongue firmly in my cheek!

I think this thread has run its course without the debate I expected. However I would like to see a user name and location included at the very least. I am off for a cup of tea now and considering phoning Douglas Strachan to see if he fancies going on tour as the " Two Grumpy Old Men ". I wonder if we would sell any tickets? Oh no !! I may have just started a serious thread. Answers on a postcard, using your real name of course.

I personally think this would be a good idea instead of having a for sale item or any other post as Guest. I also think our profile section beside each post should have our location or county.

No, but the site is for the BHDTA, the drivers and associates. Some of the advertisers and respondents who use the 'guest' banner are well known in carriage driving circles and should register. It only takes a little time to do so, so what have they got to hide? I am not saying that it is for BHDTA members only but I think that registration makes it more open. Just my opinion.

Mike, thanks for your reply. I have taken some time to respond as I thought other users would have some comment. I can quite see where you are coming from but even sites such as ebay, a username and location have to be used and you have to register with that site. However I am happy to accept your explanation and at least I have got my grievance off my chest. Many thanks, Dave.

It's a fair point, what do people think?

There are two approaches to achieving your end:
- market/social pressure - don't pursue any advert unless people will give you 'proper' contact details, or
- compulsion - force everyone to register.

A snag about compelling everyone to register for this is that we're still finding a proportion of people not coping with, or delayed by, auto registration, whether they want to place ads or ask questions about them.

There's a confidentiality issue too - some people selling may want their identities protected from public view, for security as well as privacy? So ads, whether ebay or local papers, rarely show people's identities, whereas forum chat postings are better labelled with real names so that posters exercise more politeness/restraint. Those are essentially the reasons it's currently as it is ...

I think it is about time that all advertisers should register with the forum. When answering adverts all respondents should know who they are dealing with. All advertisers should have a username and a password. If you have nothing to hide, why not?
