I have to agree with Dawn in that this debate seems to be getting a little heated, when at the end of the day if people like your photo's they will buy them if they don't, they won't.

I am no professional and only put photos on the bhdta website because it is my local event. But having recently been to a dressage competition and seen the photo's taken there - I did think that maybe I could do better. As someone has mentioned I think you need to 'know' horses to get the best shot

I'd say to people have a look at all the photo's and make up your own mind!! :0)

Why is there such fighting going on, capital letters to stress words (Capital letters in a post does not make you any better), also making out photographers are not as good as they state.

I have seen photographs taken at Driving Events where the photographer has mistakenly got themselves in the incorrect position for the shot.
Made the horse look distorted or things in the photo that could have been avoided etc.

However at the end of the day if the competitor does not want to buy then fine if they do great, they are under no pressure.

I find the best photographers are the ones that do not need to boast about their work or make out other photographers are worse.
Also those photographers that threaten other photographers only do so because they are not confident about their work. (We ourselves were threatened even though we were only taking private photo's)

If you are confident about your photography then you will have no need to boast, threaten, or feel threatened.

If there are other photograhers at a venue you willl only worry about sales if your photography is not up to par.
You build your reputation by example, not by shouting.

So lets stop this "I have the best printer", "you should be using quality paper" etc. Instead just enjoy what you do .. take the photos and stop this nit picking with others.

Quite an unnecessary and rude post, IMHO.
Having viewed, communicated, and purchased pictures from the person you are abusing I can say I am more than happy. If my pony hadn't been going well and working in a good outline I would not have blamed any photographer. Likewise, I am not obliged to buy any pictures, and certainly I was not pushed into doing so.
I compete in many other horse disciplines, and have never seen the rudeness and downright abusing attitude before that i've seen since playing about at carriage driving. Is this really the way you want people to see the sport?

I notice to keep stating "quality prints" on your posts and have mentioned how other photographers don't get the right shots/frame, are out of focus and miss the start of the day. I have looked at your pictures and have to say I was quite shocked to see. They are not in ficus properly, horses not working properly (Not going forward), poor action shots and no pictures of any of the first competitors of the day at Normanhurst. This seems a case of pot calling kettle black to me. I know marketting is about building yourself up but you can go to far and be misrepresenting

What experience do you have/knowledge of horses to make the claims you get these pictures, this looks to me to have been the worsed pictures mentioned on this forum, yet you blow your trumpet and put down other photographers frequently.

I enjoy looking at good pictures as I cant get to events any more and have been let down by your claims
