Whichever method you use to calculate your marathon timetable, make sure you use the correct set of figures. It's not unheard of for someone with a horse to come in on pony times by mistake and vice versa! |

Lauren, at home I use the isport tracker pro- it's IST on my iPhone screen, I set it up and press start, and it tracks me- even if I pop onto a field and do some dressage training, it tracks every circle and adds it all up, I get an average speed over the whole drive, a map of my route and it splits each drive into KM and tells me what I did each KM in- so of I'm going to do a walk section, I just make sure I'm at the start of a KM (phone gets given to groom) and walk a full KM and trot on again at the start of the next one, as long as the route suits it, then in the split, it shows up the 6th km (for example) as the walk time. I love it! Especially the map! I use it while riding too. It cost 59p! |

Hi Lauren If you have a mobile with internet access you can go onto http://www.mw5.com/mt.html on your web browser on your phone and save it as a bookmark. You will then be able to use the calculator even if your not on the net with your phone.. |

Wow! I don't have any excuse at all with my 14.2!! He struggles with his walk too- we did a ridden arena Trec last week and his canter was just out of the range in the control of paces section but his walk was miles off. Lots of walk work coming up as well! |

My 11hh Sec A 26yo pony did full club marathons last year, including Catton and a NQ, without any problems! Ok, we had to work on the walk, and his driver got fed up of repeating 'walk on' for the full kilometre.....but he did it. It's all about preparation. Give it a go! |

Thanks for your help everyone- much appreciated! He's going at about 4 minutes to 4 mins ten seconds per km over 14 km under harness, still less under saddle- so will keep up the fittening work! |

So no difference for new starters then? Ok- best step up a notch or three! Am going to track him under harness too, see what difference we have. Thank you! |

These are the times i work on but i always make sure i am under the Min time then you can decide what to do as your getting to the end of that section of the marathon weather you need to speed up or slow down and be in beetween your min and max times to avoid time penalties. For a 6km Marathon here are the times Min & Max Km Max Min 1 4:17 3:57 2 8:34 7:54 3 12:51 11:51 4 17:09 15:49 5 21:26 19:46 6 25:43 23:43 If you want to calculate your own times use this http://www.mw5.com/mt.html |

Hi all! I'm busy getting my pony fit for my first HDT- we'll be pre-novice. I'm averaging about 6 minutes per km at the moment- this morning 20km took two hours dead under saddle- he's a bit quicker under harness- partly due to me being much more likely to trot downhill as long as it's safe under harness. I've got a great app on my phone that tracks my distance and breaks down my time and gives me average time for each km etc... I'm just wondering what times to aim for- how many minutes per km?? I hasten to add, we don't do 20km every day- he hacks out most nights after work between 10 and 16 km on average, and drives at weekends when I have a groom. |
