Fantastic result. Well done Boyd and all at Team Exell. World Champion Indoors and Out, that's some achievement.

According to a press report, Chardon's carriage had the padding round the pole and seats cut with a knife and the brake hydraulics have been interfered with.

They got permission from the Ground Jury to go last in the marathon, which gave them time to make some repairs, but they did not have time to change the hydraulic fluid.

I guess the brakes must still have been working reasonably well, since he managed to drive the obstacles faster than anyone else - and reduce Boyd's lead to less than 2 penalties !

We're certainly in for an exciting cones competition tomorrow !

Drama in Kentucky

Fantastic round by Boyd Excell, a winning round.

Ijsbrand Chardon's start on the marathon was delayed by 45 minutes. Unconfirmed reports that his carriage has been damaged in a suspected act of sabotage!!!!!??????

But as yet no showing of 'that test'. Chardon's was great, really looking forward to seeing Boyds.

I got my FEI sub for 10 euros a month. If you " go through the motions" on the subscription page it eventually offers you a discount.

For those who think FEI TV subscription rates (E10 per day) are a bit steep, the good news is that Eurosport charge £3.99 per month for their live internet steam TV.

Remember that Kentucky is on Eastern Standard Time (EST) which is 5 hours behind our time (BST), so all the events appear to happen much later in the day.

The marathon starts at 10 a.m., which is 3 p.m. our time (BST).
Boyd starts on section A at 12.30, which is 5.30 p.m. BST.
The last competitor goes at 2 p.m., which is 7 p.m. BST.

Australia’s Boyd Exell set a new World Championship record this afternoon with his team of black geldings. He drove an excellent and faultless dressage test, which was awarded with a magnificent score of 30.08 penalty points. The previous World Record was held by Chester Weber, who set a score of 32.13 penalty points at the World four-in-hand Driving Championships in Beesd in 2008.
