Carole - Here is Griff's website - http://www.griffgb.com/ I think you are possibly right - certainly worth thinking about up-dating a design, so long as no-one spends thousands commissioning a company to produce some sort of nonsense as we have seen with so many organisations in big business! |

I don't want to open up a Hornet's nest here but I personally think the BHDTA Logo needs a facelift. For me it conjurs up visions of a Draught Horse Ploughing Match!! On the other hand, given the weather at Henbury and Escrick marathons this year maybe it is spot-on! Seriously though, could we not have something a bit more dynamic- even slightly light-hearted. Some of the Club logos are brilliant and really sum up the sport as being fun and exciting. The jewellrey stall at Windsor- I think they were called "GRIFF"- had some fantastic HDT designs for their brooches etc which were slightly whimsical but really told the story. Perhaps something along those lines would be more suited to the 21st century? Just an observation- don't put a contract out on me! |

Jo, we are making a TV documentary about Holker. The theme is a behind the scenes look at how an event comes together. We have also followed 3 drivers at home in their preparation for Holker. I believe we need regular TV exposure to raise the proile of the sport, and to interest sponsors. |

I dropped the BEF website people an email to ask about this at the weekend. They said that they'll now contact the BHDTA for a report to put up on there. I really need to get our more. |

Minta, you are absolutely right. My approach to sponsorship is, by association with the sport we can give the sponsor a 'measureable performance improvement'eg sell more cars, bags of crisps etc etc and/or raise brand awareness. Over the years I have been involved in developing major sponsorship packages, including a World Cup deal and advising Star Wars director George Lucas on a global sponsorship programme. Have a look at the kind of things we have done for our sponsors at Holker and in September how we have been able to weave them into the TV programme, a 'fly on the wall' documentary about the build up to Holker. Sponsorship is just one of the priorities needing attention. Give me a call, or I will find you at Holker. |

Chris its great to hear your enthustiasm, but its not all just about what we can get from sponsors, but also a lot of what we can give them. For the past 30 years I have driven for owners and sponsors, so I feel that I have some knowledge of the work involved to catch and keep them!! To start with its a two way thing, No sponsor or owner is going to give you their hard earned money without getting something in return, first of all they need their names in the programme and repeated during the commentaries, they need tickets to get into the events, they need the experience! they need rossettes and trophies to put in their boardrooms, they need drivers and staff who are well turned out in team gear, their name/logo on the carraiges, and then they need the media coverage, and thats just the smaller owner sponsor. you are working for them and if you are succesful as this then you get the backing and the friendships that last years, as well as bringing new competitiors stewards and helpers into the sport. |

Georgina, this is Chris Hillman the new Director of Marketing. I have a Vision of the Future for the sport, but it is far to detailed to put onto the forum. I plan to present it on the main web pages after Holker. HDT is without doubt the best kept secret in sport, yet when edited correctly is as visual & exciting as any sport on TV. Core to the sports success is acquiring commercial sponsorship, to be successful in this we have to be able to deliver viewers/spectators. There 2 distinct audiences TV & live. TV. At the moment we are working on a number of TV projects that will guarantee us a TV audience in 2011 in excess of 5million. Live. More than 6 million people go to agricultural shows each year. The CLA Gamefair, has 150,000 visitors over 3 days. We have been invited to put forward a concept/version of HDT to take centre stage next year. Add 6 other agri shows and we can guarantee a live audience approaching half a million. With these figures we start to be taken seriously by commercial organisations as a sport that understands the marketing needs of their brand. Another problem we have is potential sponsors know very little about the sport, so we have been developing a short DVD that is sent with proposals to show the sport at it's best and highlight the benefits of investing in us. Doing this gives the image of being a very professinal sport that understands commercial marketing. If Meerkats can sell car insurance then HDT is the perfect partner to promote a well known brand. Developing clubs, recruitment, winning medals on the World stage all need resource. What we need to do is prioritise. So lets start a lively honest debate from members, clubs, supporters on what they see as the sports priorities. One thing I can guarantee to everyone involved in the sport is my total commitment to helping them and the sport progress over the next few years. Hopefully we can start some lively banter. Perhaps we could invite him to start a thread about his current and proposed activities - judging by Julia and Jeff's success at getting feedback on a really interesting thread about percentages it could make for some lively debate... |

Martyn, you should perhaps point this out to the new marketing director? He can't be everywhere at once and would probably appreciate the heads-up! |

Why oh why are our Drivers in Italy being ignored by the BEF TeamGBR Website and their Facebook pages? We are missing out on promoting our sport on the BBC Sport website as they take a feed from the BEF Pages. Just what does the BEF do for our sport? Maybe they will be done away with in all the Government cuts. Really enjoying the daily blog and coverage on www.hippoevent.at |
