We had two ponies driving to the same vehicle a few years ago and they were 3 hands apart, we did a few outdoor trials and both did well. Minimum weight for BHDTA rules is 90kg for a pony, both of yours should handle that ok once fit. Depending on the difference in length of the two you should be able to bring the shafts out for the bigger one, everything else should be ok. We took 2 pairs of shafts to a competition and swapped between them. The only thing you may find it the carriage becomes a bit light with the full up pony, but that will depend on his behaviour and how fast you go! We've just ordered a new carriage for the section A we have, he's been pulling a two wheeler outdoors with great success. The new one has 4 wheels and will be only just small enough for him, so it'll do the 13.2 we plan to buy as well. Luckily the guy that makes mine is used to me now and my demanding requests!! |

I just wondered if I could get some advice about carriages? We have a range of super carriages for our shetland but my daughter has now got a 13.2hh New Forest, he has just been broken and going well in a Bennington 2 wheeler. What I am not sure about is the next step - a 4 wheel, 3 phase vehicle that we will use for indoors and outdoors. I am unsure of the weight I should be looking for as I don't want to make it too heavy for him. Also if I could buy one carraige that would suit the 13.2hh New Forest and my older daughters Section D 14.2hh then that would be super, although I am not sure if there needs will be too different? Any advice would be great! Many thanks Nicolette |
