Dear all,
Results published in H&H are sent in from contributors and (rarely) driving shows/events themselves. Those sent in our house style are given priority, but all disciplines results are always fighting for space in the magazine.
Driving results are appearing in the magazine and do throughout the winter, too.

Just out of interest, is it the mag or the event to blame? Do H&H rely on the results being sent to them,or do they compile them? After all they had reporters at Farleigh covering the action. I know one website I know will list any results that are sent to him, but he relies on people to forward the details. For instance, did the secretary of Suffolk County forward the full results to H&H? I'd like to see the winter results listed, they wouldn't take up much room. Even if no one actually attends from H&H. But that'd mean someone has to tell them the winners!

I've written to H&H in the past to ask why all carriage driving write ups stop at the end of the Autumn and advised that there are Indoor Trials held over the winter (just as there are indoor dressage and indoor showjumping competitions).

I was basically told that the H&H couldn't cover these smaller events.... :-(

"Reading the results alongside a "what happened" analysis makes them much more interesting."
I totally agree with that quote. My point was the results were not put in at all. Just a report mentioning a few of the drivers.

I think H&H are doing a great job. they give us the wider picture on horse news, legislation and welfare issues and we can buy the mag and write to them to let them know we enjoy the carriage driving bits. If we aren't readers, why should they publish anything about our sport? I always learn something new from "our" articles, too. Reading the results alongside a "what happened" analysis makes them much more interesting.

Second point - the "big" magazines are only interested in the top drivers, just like in other sports it's the top names who appear in the news all the time. It's difficult to mention others' names when one's brief is specific. I am not trying to score a point for In Harness here (honestly!), but I like to read about everyone. Who knows who'll be a top driver one day? Just reading about your friends' progress or results at an event you didn't attend is still interesting (I think). Just my tuppence-worth.

p.s. Does anyone want to write me a report on Sandringham? Call me? 07710 467774

With the internet we will always have the arguement about should you subscribe to any publication, when you can see the results online. What is the point of old news.

I enjoy carriage driving, but have little understanding of Showing. I found H&H was not suitable for me when I was luck to find a small part relevent, Carriage driving was more biased towards showing, so I only read part of that.

Then came along In Harness. The arguement could still be raised about old news because anyevent covered is going to be in the past. But you also have a magazine with a small number of adverts (relevent ones to carriage driving, "old news" and lots and lots of relevent vies and advice that is relevent to begginer to experienced drivers alike.

But that comes back to the 'read online instead of buying' argument! I'm not into showing, but I always look through the show pages and results to see who I know thats doing well. I'm a subscriber, and have to wait til my postie arrives, which is usually about 1/2pm. If more information is available on the 'net, why bother paying for late news?

Hi the results are there on the results pages. They are in the form of pdf files and you need Adobe Acrobat reader to open the files. The reader is available free from http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Just install the reader and got back to the results page to get the results.

Good luck

Nice to see a couple of pages of driving this week, but what a shame they didn't put the Farleigh prize winners in there somewhere. There's a good report, covering a small amount of the classes, and lots of selection gossip. But not even a mention of other winners, in the report or the results later in the mag. Escrick got a mention too, but again just the chosen few, rather than the major winners list. Having been a competitor in other horse areas, I know getting your name in print makes all the time and expense worth it! Besides, just because you can get the information off the 'net, doesn't mean you can't repeat it in the paper. If thats the case we'll all end up surfing and H&H will be no more!
No, I have no axe to grind, and my name wasn't missing. :oD
