we bought some very reasonable harrnes from jo beman of bemans saddlery she is always at the welsh sales her pony size harness fits the section a's well and is quite adequte for the breaking phase . ours cost us £65 but that was 2 yrs ago i think its about 80 now . we were very lucky we have a freind that is into driving and drives singles pairs and a team . she has been very helpful and after some basic lessons has lent us an older trials pony over the winter to learn with . we are going on with breaking some of the section a's to drive i have one older mare longreining now nice ly but we are taking it very slow with her as she hasnt done any ridden work in her life and she is a teenager . i have started longreining my 2 yr old colt today hes a devil to show in hand as he tries to bite me i thought long reining might help to keep him going straighter in the ring and will help him when he goes on to be ridden or driven

Hi Elinor.

I'm assuming your reference to the shetland sales is Reading so you are in the south. I personally wouldnt rush into buying stuff at a sale until you know what you want and have had some lessons. your instructor can guide you on what you will need.

Why dont you pop along to the indoor event at Sparsholt on 16th November where there will be people you can chat too and maybe even some section A's being driven so you can see what harness etc you would need.

regards
Sue

Hello everyone,
As you can tell im very very new, but have been making enquiries and purchasing my books to learn to drive. I at present own two section As who it would be nice at some stage to break to drive. Im aware that step is a long way off and am in the process of booking some driving lessons but have been told that there is a shetland pony sale in my area tomorrow which will have lots of useful driving related gear to fit my girls. As such im now all in a fluster as to what to buy as this sale only occurs twice a year.

Any help or advice would be appreicated, we already own 2 rollers, long lines, 2 bridles wips etc but have been reading sallie walronds book were she begins to lunge with harness on the horse and uses a fulmar bit so am i little mixed on our next steps and what i should purchase at this point.

very sorry for poor spelling but I have mild dyslexia, any help would be hugely appreicated.

Many thanks!
