Hi, Diane, you will find the correct measurements for cones layouts in the BC rulebook. You can practice zig-zags, serpentines etc. and get the distances between pairs of cones correct for your turnout so you can learn to drive them as they should be laid out in any outdoor affiliated event.

You will also find the details about obstacle measurements in the rules, section 942.3 is useful.

If you want to practise using "proper" obstacles here are some suggestions... (I precis)
Place your start/finish flags not less than 20m from the nearest gate so you get used to going in and out (!).
No compulsory gate should be less than 2.5m wide (altho' you can have alternate ways through that are less). In practice we make most of our gates 3m or wider.
The track through the obstacle should be no more than 250m
Elements should be no less than 1.3m high

Of course you can drive round whatever you want!

I attach maps of cones and obstacles from our latest event (as published on the Announcements forum).

Do let us know how you get on?

Best wishes, Fiona

p.s. do practise with a backstepper on the carriage and wear a hard hat, in case of accidents!

Hi I sell the obstacles that were at Olympia, Keysoe and the carriage fair. they are sturdy, robust, easily moved, they can stay outside as they do not rot. Various colours, can be moved to make different shapes and designs of obstacles. They are the correct height for obstacles so they can be used for training or competitions.

I want to start practicing cones and obstacles. i have got a set of cones, so no problems there, but wher can i get the plastic gate obstacles from? And also, probably a really thick question, but are there certain positions and lay outs that they are set on, or do I just kind of put them wherever?
