Well, I've been in contact with the Hackney Horse Society, and they say: "Our rules are if the animal is microchipped then the owner can do the diagram." So that's that explained. But I still don't know what to do about the fact that Bella's microchip begins with 826, and the HHS didn't have anything to say about that. I think I'll now have to contact DEFRA. Helen, I'm intrigued by the fact that you have 2 passports. I didn't think that was allowed. The whole point of these detailed passports, with their UELNs, is that a horse has only one passport. When I asked about getting a new passport, the HHS told me that, as I already had one, I couldn't have another. (Actually, I was asking about a replacement, not a second, passport, but that's another story). Yes, we'll be at Dalmeny. Today we go to Eglington! I see from the dressage times that you will not be there; nothing wrong, I trust. |

I know it's very tiresome - I work for Animal Health as well an d I get no help / exemptions either!! Nelson was micro chipped and came with a dutch passport which had no veterinary signature OR silouette filled in when it came to me. I got my vet to do me a DEFRA passport even though I could have done it myself and now am the proud owner of 2 passports - one with UELN and microchip number:-)and one identified with the microchip number only:-(. Persevere, hopefully it'll be less complicated than it looks the now. I need both Nelsons passports with me at events as his original vaccination details are in it, to ensure continuity to his replacement (legal) one!! See you at Dalmeny? Hx |

Thanks, Helen. I went to the DEFRA site and found this: If the rules of the PIO allow, a horse owner may complete and verify the Passport silhouette providing that the animal is microchipped at the time the Passport application is made. At present, microchips can only be used in addition to completed silhouettes. So far, all well and good, as Bella is microchipped. This was known to the HHS when they sent the new passport, and is why I was allowed to sign the form instead of a vet. But then DEFRA says: Any microchip inserted must not begin with the 826 UK code. PIOs will provide guidance on the type of microchip that can be used. Well, her microchip does begin with 826. Sigh. So I think I'll get in touch with the HHS and try to sort this out. Will let folks know how I get on. |

After reading all of Janet's posts on UELNs, I went over my horse's Hackney Horse Society passport. As in Janet's case, this passport was issued before 2004 so we have no UELN number, or even, as far as I can see, a passport number. What should I put on the entry form? My horse's identification number from the Hackney Horse Society stud book? Also, on the page that has line drawings of my horse with white markings shown in red etc., my name is at the bottom (where it says, 'Signature and stamp of qualified veterinary surgeon or competent authority), and that the stamp box is empty. Is this OK? |
