Hillam extension to fit Ifor Williams trailer still for sale. Now removed and ready for collection £500, complete with fittings for brakes and lights. Only 16 bolts so quite simple to fit (in case your husband is not a retired engineer!) It is all about finding a system that works for you.07792 874475

Hi Ellie, we are newbies as well and had probs getting transport that we could afford. We managed to get an old Rice Trailer and my husband, a retired engineer, built an extension to the go on the front to take our carriage (similar to a Hillam extension)because we made it ourselves we were able to build it exactly for our carriage. It works wonderfully, the trailer cost £400 and the complete extension was another £200, hubby didn't get paid ha ha. Our only possible prob we may have now is possibly getting her to load in it. She has always loaded without a prob, but she hates pigs and yes... the trailer has been used to transport pigs :-( we have stripped it and cleaned it and apart from putting bunches of sweet smelling flowers in there, we can only hope... and allow extra time when we finally get the weather to go out somewhere with it all.

We did a few seasons with an Ifor Williams trailer with Hilllam drawbar extension and slept in a tent, tough job fitting everything in car for a weekend away but worked OK!

If your family or friends are able to provide a second car, you could use a small trailer to transport your carriage and other items.

If it's a van type trailer, you could also sleep in it (though its worth spending a few quid to line the walls with insulation and fit an old caravan window if you intend to do that regularly).

As Caroline said, some use vans or pickups to transport carriages and pull a horse trailer:

Ellie lots of people don't have a lorry so don't worry. There are lots of different combinations that you will see people using. Some take the carriage in a van and pull trailer with pony in, some alter their existing trailers to put a carriage extension on the front of the trailer, some have bigger trailers that will take pony and carriage. What area are you in? We belong to East Anglia Driving Group and are a very friendly bunch, I would recommend going and looking at differnt combinations and work out what is in your budget :-)
