I totally agree that a 12% response was very good - and, let's face it, not all 800 members are active on the Forum (I wonder what that percentage would work out at?).
I hold my hand up to not completing the SWOT form, partly because I was particularly busy at the time it came out and partly (mainly) because as a professional in the PR industry I felt my views would be 'biased' towards a professional response rather than 'from the heart'.
I am pleased that the responses received gave 'quality' replies (quality is better than quantity!) and anyone who did not take part cannot then complain about changes as a result of the survey and forum.
As a member of the BHDTA Marketing Committee I look forward to seeing the report!

I believe that a targeted mailshot normally gets approx 5% response rate so better than 10% is pretty good.

We were very pleased with the quality of, and the thought that had gone into, the responses received.

What chance does this sport have if, out of 800 only 96 can be bothered to respond???? Apathy is alive and kicking.
All credit to you and Lyn, Patti for your hard work!

In October 2012 in response to a protracted website forum exchange Lyn Price and I decided that it might be an appropriate time to engage with Carriage Drivers to try to determine their views on the sport and how it can be developed for the future. A proposal to carry out a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) survey and analysis using the BHDTA membership was made to Council and accepted by it in November 2012.

A request to be involved in a SWOT analysis was sent by email to all those (over 800) people for whom the BHDTA has an email address and the exercise was also promoted on the website, by email to various carriage driving groups and on Facebook.

96 people responded with replies containing in excess of 1500 comments and suggestions.

Keith spent many hours sorting the comments and presented an analysis of those comments to the BHDTA Chairman and the people who wished to attend the second part of the exercise.

The second part– the discussion phase – was held on 26th January. Although snow was forecast (and happened – it was the day that the M6 was blocked!) we had an amazing 27 attendees from all over the United Kingdom who were all keen to get involved.

This resulted in an exciting and stimulating day with the opportunity for in-depth discussion on the points identified in the original SWOT analysis factual report.

We are currently writing a report of the findings of the SWOT and the Discussion which we anticipate will be completed before the end of February.
