Thanks for the help guys, I will try putting the bit a hole higher and if that doesnt work will get a ported one. We are in Bournemouth so if anyone can reccommend someone knowledgeable local to us that would be great. I do intend to get help when we get further down the line training wise but at the moment we are just starting and hes been so easy so far Ive come to the conclusion that he must have been driven before in his life.

Hi,
It might be helpfull to get a bit with an arched mouthpiece. This is where the mouthpiece arches up rather than a mullen mouthpiece which arches forward.

Straight bar and cobs often dont go together - if he has fleshy tongue. My old cob put tongue over with straight bar but a low port or mullen was fine. But a riding bit is ok to use. Would suggest that you get experienced help though - there may be someone local to you that could help - where are you based?

Hi, am new here and to driving. Have just started breaking my cob to drive and hes been a star so far in all that weve done. He does however know how to get his tongue over the bit when we are long reining him. Its a sliding cheek liverpool with a straight bar and 3 slots. My questions are : do you have to use a driving bit or is a riding bit acceptable for driving? and any tips for stopping him getting his tongue over? Its a new thing he has taught himself recently, clever boy that he is :-) Thanks for any help.
