Thank you Christopher, My husband and I sorted it out today, it wasn't far off but we think we've got it right now. The photo in the link you sent me is great! Zarla |

You need some help to do this. One person needs to hold the shafts about where the horses pad will be, who can let you know when the weight is just right (i.e. negligible) and stop you from tipping backwards if the weight goes completely! The other person needs to be winding the axle to get the adjustment right. You and your groom need to be in the carriage! As you are probably already aware, the winding mechanism moves the axle forwards or backwards. You can think of the carriage as a see-saw, with the axle the pivoting centre. Using the see-saw analogy, if you move the axle – the pivot – along one direction, then you change the weight distribution accordingly. So if you move the axle forwards, more of the weight of both carriage and passengers is behind the pivot, resulting in an increase in the weight pushing down and at the back and lightening the shafts at the other side. If you move the axle backwards, some of the weight will be moved to the shaft side of the axle and that’ll make the shafts heavier. It might be an idea to check that the shafts are symmetrical too. I fettled with an RDA carriage a couple of months ago and it was very uneven. I got my tape measure out and found one shaft was 1 inch further out. Having them at the same correct length cured a big wobble. /image{my picture} |

Hi, Bought a lovely Intro 2wheeler second hand, recently. Its my first one and I don't understand how to balance it properly. Any pointers? I want to make sure the problems I'm having with my turnout aren't related to anything I can alter. Thank you. Z |
