If there is so much discontent within the membership and council of BCd then call a EGM and get it sorted or get on the council. All this bickering has gone on so long. Enough is enough. |

Dear Nigel How do you know if some information is confidential or not, unless some one else is pulling your strings. If you go to council members on the B.C. web page you will see that the photograph of Barry Marshall has disappeared. There has been no official announcement from the executive officer or the chairman about the resignation of Barry Marshall. In Mike Hodgsons post he said there are plenty of former council members that have expressed That the council is unworkable. There is nothing confidential about a Council member resigning from the B.C, council, however do you not think that the membership should know why, especially taking into consideration he was an appointed council member So Nigel you don't know why Barry Marshall Resigned David Titmuss seems to knows some thing about this matter, but doesn't want to tell the rest of the membership and he thinks that some one asking questions about the reasons behind a council member resigning is detrimental to the sport, So the only person we are going to get the truth from is Barry Marshal I would welcome him to step up to the forum and let us all know the reasons why he decided to leave the council. |

Mr Longstaff, To answer the points now raised would involve expressing my personal opinions which would therefore neither be relevant or appropriate in fairness to the persons involved, and would mean prolonging this conversation further which is only detrimental to this sport. I decline to enter into further comment on the forum but remain available to any member who wishes to contact me direct. |

Oh Mr. Longstaff, this is now becoming tedious. Yet again, because it suits whatever nefarious purpose you have so far failed to declare, you once again choose to put words into my mouth that I have not said. If you must quote me, please have decency to be accurate. What I said in reality was: " I don't know how many have resigned from council, or why and what's more, I don't particularly care". I never mentioned anyone by name - in fact I couldn't have if I'd wanted to! You seem to set much store in transparency and yet you yourself are obviously unwilling to explain here on this public forum how you are party to confidential information, or indeed to answer any of the questions so far put to YOU! My viewpoint remains the same; I am happily anticipating the 2015 driving season. I would ask however, that you do me the courtesy of not misquoting me any further. |

Dear David Titmuss, I would just like to correct you on one or two of your misleading posts. The Horse driving council normaly consisted of eight elected members and now it is made up of 5 elected and 2 appointed members Phillip Bateman chose not to stand, Jock Macfarlen chose not to carry on as chairman on the council and has gone to do a completely different sport, Will Bowman Ripley resigned, also after only 2 weeks Barry Marshall an appointed member of the council has resigned. The minutes of the British Carriagedriving council meeting held Wednesday 1st October 2014, sent out to all members by Mary Kusin., Stated council members present at the council meeting were James Rooney, David Titmuss, Barry Hilditch, Ian Gilbert, Phillip Bateman, Wilf Bowman Ripley, Jock McFarlane James Broom and Tim Bradford So would I be right in thinking that Tim Bradford was attending the council meeting, presuming he was on the council at this stage, or that he wasn’t and was invited along for whatever reasons. After only one council meeting he decided not to take up his post on the council. What is going wrong when elected and nominated council members are resigning, to put it in prospective there hasn't been 2 resignations in 20 years,we then get 2 in two monts Nigel Wilson has stated on the forum he does not know the reason why Barry Marshall resigned; The sport needs transparency not cloak and dagger Something this important surely should have been posted on the BC news page or do you regard these resignations as none important. As a council member could you shed any light on the resignation of Barry Marshall? |

Mr. Longstaff, I don't have any answers and have never claimed to. My observations are made simply from the perspective of someone who is an ordinary member of BC. I don't know how many have resigned from council, or why and what's more, I don't particularly care. People come and people go from committees and councils - that's the nature of them. Those who are there for what they can do for the organisation tend to stick around and provide continuity and stability and, as we have a full calendar of events for 2015, that would seem to be what we have. So, I've done my best to address your question; how about you now answer some of the ones that I have posed to you? |

We Need to stop all this mud slinging, Its doing nobody any good and its not doing anything for our sport. We have all either got to agree to wait until the next AGM to sort the problems out or we need to take a vote of no confidence on the current council and bring it to a head. Either way suits me, But what happens it has to be better than the current state of affairs Mick Ward |

Wrong again Mr Longstaff. For your information, no 2014 council members resigned. One council member declined to stand for re election, one person who was about to be co-opted declined to take up that post, a third person co-opted at the end of 2014 subsequently resigned. This does not constitute "over half of them have gone" nor does it constitute "now even appointed members are leaving" I am not at liberty to discuss their reasons for leaving. |

Dear Mr Wilson, I find myself agreeing with you on one point, the managing team / council who ran the sport in 2014, did an outstanding job. As we look forward to 2015 over half of these council members have gone. This many resignations in such a short time is unheard of and now even appointed council members are leaving. You seem to have a lot of the answers, so will you please answer me one question, Do you know why so many council members have resigned? |

"Mr. Longstaff", I see that yet again you chose to intentionally misquote me for your own ends. So, to give the full statement in context, what I actually said was: "I don't care what goes on with regard to council - as a member of BC I am happy that they have the best interests of driving and the members at heart." As an ordinary member of BC, I am happy that I am able to turn up at events and compete, enjoy the challenge of my sport and hobby in fantastic settings in the company of good friends. I've done that for the last 20 years or so and hopefully, despite the current destructive influences, I will be able to continue to do so into the future and I suspect that that is what the majority of members would like. From my point of view therefore, "the team and it's management" are doing a good enough job so far and in fact the 2014 championships were great! From your tub-thumping you seem to be proclaiming an inside knowledge of matters that occur within council, yet you are not ON council, so that begs the question, what is the nature of the personal axe that you are so publically intent on grinding? I have already renewed my membership of BC for 2015 - have you? Happy New Year everyone. |

I DONT CARE WHAT GOES ON IN COUNCIL To Answer Nigel Wilsons above comment A Successful team is lead and driven by its management and manager on the field of play. Your comment means you want to follow what is arranged regardless if it is in the best interest of the members or not. A co-opted member of the Council selected by the Council themselves probably hand picked thinking they would agree with every thing said or done has resigned after a few weeks. Obviously he could not be part of a dictatorship was definitely not happy with what is going on so he resigned his position to save his profession standing within the membership. So what i am saying it seems one or two Council members are trying to run the show and obviously not consulting fellow members of the council. Remember all Council members remaining if you do not agree with things and are not consulted about matters you may be tarnished by the same brush. AGM 2015 is perhaps too far away. |

I have refrained from posting on this topic due to the lack of communication, I feel nobody really knows the full picture. I’m sure many people feel the same. However I know feel something needs to be done. I fully understand why people have chosen to be anonymous, however if we are to achieve anything then people need to stand up to be counted. Regardless of what has happened, on the topic of things being hidden from council members, the lack of any communication from the office/council on the issue of someone resigning, as well as all the other communication failures there has been recently, clearly highlights a huge leadership problem. If the sport is going to survive let alone thrive in a modern world then leadership needs to be dynamic, modern and transparent. Nothing could be achieved at the AGM, any questions asked to the council received a similar response to that of ‘’it’s being looked into’’ or ‘’they weren’t sure at present.’’ A lack of professionalism and preparation to some very predictable questions? Or were they questions nobody thought would be asked? People should care what is going on regarding the council and if they don’t then surely you don’t care about the future of our sport. Actions taken now are not only going to affect the present but also if we have any events or competitors left in 10 or 20 years. On top of the 3 council members that have resigned, there are plenty of former council members I have heard express the council is unworkable with, or things seem to be decided on the plane journey down. It seems clear to me the only way forward from this is complete transparency and the entire council steps down and a new election is called. If the existing council are voted back on then then people are obviously happy with them, if not a new council can be formed and hopefully the sport can move on, modernize and grow. Although Bob’s post may have named names removing a post that opposes the council only makes council appear very suppressive and like a dictatorship, what happened to free speech? If for any reason my post is removed I have print screen it and it will be placed onto Facebook. Merry Christmas everyone. |

"Bob Longstaff". Obviously, you don't know me - as I don't know you, so perhaps I should forgive you for making an error of judgement with regard to my character and making the asumption that I am unable to put forth my own opinion, uncoloured by any other consideration. However, you have grossly misunderstood the tenet of my post which basically is this: I don't care what goes on with regard to council - as a member of BC I am happy that they have the best interests of driving and the members at heart. I do, however, care deeply about carriage driving and your accusations, insinuations, personal attacks and "cheap sniping" (someone else's description, not mine, but please note the correct spelling) are doing nothing but harm to our sport. I know you are not a member of council, so I wonder therefore where your information comes from? As I have been on various committees in my business life over the years, I well understand the nature of confidentiality in relation to company business, but it appears that you do not. So, I would just like to point out to you the fact that anyone who is unhappy with the way things are done, has the absolute right to 'vote with their feet' and chose not to be a member of BC. By the same token, any member can put themselves forward for council using the correct procedure within company law. |

Oh dear! How disappointing that, just as things have settled down, the knocking starts again. The timing could not be worse either. We have just had a marvellous showcase of our wonderful sport at Olympia that has created lots of interest from new people. I am sure that the volunteers who manned the BC stand along with the hardworking people from Carriage Driving magazine will wonder why they bothered. We were very impressed by it all and felt that the sport was turning the corner. I can only echo the sentiments of Nigel,David,Christine and Mike and say a massive Thank You to the few who do so much for everybody else. |

What Nigel and David said. All of the council members and 'the executive officer' put a hell of a lot of effort into running our sport to the best of their abilities and whilst not everyone is going to agree with every little decision they make I for one would like to applaud them. If of course you would like to man up, have the courage of your convictions and stop sniping from behind a pseudonym maybe you could stand for election and try and change things, although I guess whining constantly from the background is a bit easier. |

Nigel, I couldn't agree more. Where are these snipers when it comes to AGM time?. That is the perfect opportunity for these people to come out of hiding and put themselves up for election to the Council. As I said on this forum a few weeks ago, let's get behind the Council for the forthcoming season. If you are still unhappy at the end of the season stand up and be counted and let's see if you can do any better!! |

Do you know what? It would serve you damn well right if the entire council resigned en mass and left you to it. Then you'd have no driving at all - or certainly not any worth having. And if you think it would be a simple matter of engaging other people to do it, then you're deluding yourself. What about getting behind council and supporting them as we move into a new year, instead of making destructive comments? Try thinking about the bigger picture for once and the good of driving in general. Merry Christmas. |

Does any one know if there is any truth in the rumour that another member of the council has resigned Tim Bradford backed out from the council, Wilf Bowman Ripley resigned and now another council member has decided they cant work with the council, the three of them cant be wrong What is happening and what is the executive officer and certain elements on the council doing to force council members to leave.. I think we are looking at a leadership problem, this is all happening on the chairman's watch. Is it time for him to stand down before there is anymore damage done to the sport |
