Douglas, There's no apathy or lack of response, it's just that it's all occurred over on facebook, which I know you have no access to. However, I agree with both you and Christine but wonder Douglas, exactly what it is in concrete terms that you think the members and affiliated clubs should be able to do to salvage the situation? £15,000 is quite a shortfall. |

Hi Douglas I agree we must not be apathetic and I would hope that many other members, like myself, have responded directly to the Chairman as asked, rather than through the forum for what is such an important issue. However, like you, I hope we can support the endeavours to fund the championships as it would be a real blow to our sport to lose them. |

The ramblings of a G.O.M. Having enjoyed the National Championships at St Fort, Holker, Harrogate, Cirencester, and Windsor, I am extremely disappointed by the apathy and lack of response on the Forum about the Funding of the 2014 National Championships at Erddig. For the last two years the BC Council has experienced extreme financial restraints after the losses incurred by the Marketing Project.. I commend the Council for arranging that the 2013 National Championship were to be held at Ashfields and for their philosophy in promoting Erddig for the 2014 Championships. Council’s decision on Location, Availability Venue not used in the season Experience gained from past events, Existing Obstacles (probably needing some refreshment) Timing at end of Season were surely all significant considerations. In the “Good Olde Days”, National Championship drivers (they were not “athletes” then) enjoyed the benefit of major sponsors such as a famous whisky distiller, a famous car manufacturer, a large outdoor clothes manufacturer, etc, etc. Unfortunately these sources of support are no longer available and so drivers must accept the realities of the current fiscal restraints. I understand that the anticipated shortfall is not just ground fees but includes other costs. I commend the Council for advising members in advance of a possible loss rather than reporting, at the AGM, a loss 13 months after the event. I find this reassuring as this forecast indicates that a budget is in place and which will no doubt be rigorously controlled. I sincerely hope that Members and Affiliated Clubs combine together to give their full support to the Council to raise the necessary Funds for The Erddig National Championship and thus conclude the driving season on a successful high note. |
